Portraits of Annabel Karmel
A little while ago I was delighted to be invited by Annabel Karmel to take some portraits of her for her newest cookery book which will be released next year.
Annabel is one of the country’s best known cooks and is best known for her kid-friendly recipes.
I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek at her new book and even got to taste one of the delicious cakes from it. Rest assured it didn’t disappoint, leaving me wanting another slice!
Sadly I can’t share the photos with you just yet until the book is published next year, but I was really happy with them, as was Annabel.
Backstage At The Olivier Awards 2015
A few weeks ago I was thrilled to be invited along by the folks at Instagram to photograph the winners and presenters of the 2015 Olivier Awards within minutes of them coming off stage at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
The Olivier Awards are the very prestigious London theatre awards named after the great actor, Laurence Olivier.
Anyway, lots of big names in theatre were in attendance and I was lucky enough to have my own mini studio set-up just backstage. Within minutes of the excitement of receiving their award, these big stars of the stage popped in front of my camera for a minute or two. Some of the presenters posed alongside the winners too with an oversized model of a 'Larry', the nickname for the award trophy that winners receive.
I was delighted to be able to photograph some very big names like Kevin Spacey, who won the Special Award for his contribution to the Old Vic Theatre over the past ten years. He was presented his award by legend of stage and screen, Dame Judi Dench. My favourite shot of the night came right at the end of the night when I was able to snap the two of them taking a selfie together.
You can see many other other stars of stage and screen in my favourite photos from the night below, as well as the resulting selfie that Kevin Spacey posted on his Instagram profile.
And the resulting selfie!
Lighting Retail Outlets
One of my great clients is a company called Shoplight. It does what it say on the tin, really; they are a retail lighting specialist.
What I like about Shoplight is that I get to go into different shops and spend some time when they're not at their busiest. It also makes you think about lighting, which as a photographer is pretty essential, obviously. Usually it's a photographer's job to light a scene, but when working for a lighting fit-out company, it takes away that job. My task becomes taking photos that show off the existing lighting. And sometimes to show off light, you need to emphasise shadow.
In the past few months, on behalf of Shoplight, I've photographed retail stores of EAT, Moss Bros, T2, Skechers and Boux Avenue. I look forward to the next retail location!
Boxman - Not A Superhero, But A Great Storage Solution
A short while ago I took some photos of Paul Stricker, the founder and MD of Boxman.co.uk.
Boxman is a brilliant storage solution for Londoners. If you've got too much stuff, head over to the website and they can deliver empty boxes to your door within a couple of hours. Fill them up with your excess stuff and then book them to come back and pick them up.
Whenever you want your stuff back, just let them know and they'll deliver your box or boxes back the next day. Handy in London when your in between homes or are simply outgrowing your current place!
Anyway, I took some PR photos of Paul for online use, one of which ended up being used on Lifehacker.co.uk. I also took some promotional images for Boxman to be used in Sarah Beeny's At Home Magazine.
Here are a few of my favourite images.
