Headshots Looking Off Camera

Relaxed headshots of people looking engaged, interested, professional but and approachable

From time to time I am asked by my clients to take headshots of their team where they aren’t looking into the camera. For some, the reason is that their staff feel more comfortable having their photo taken like that. For others, it’s a decision made because it allows more personality to come across in the photo. I enjoy taking these photos because it’s a good challenge to get the right expression from people. The aim is usually for people to look engaged, interested and approachable. One way to so it is by having the subject talk to someone just to the side of the camera, but sometimes when people talk, their mouths and faces make all kinds of funny expressions, so I tend to find it better for the subject to listen, engage, smile or even laugh at the person just off-camera.

YFM Equity Partners asked me to photograph their staff in London and Manchester in the aforementioned style, and I had a great time meeting their team. The challenge, during Covid times, was to manage these kind of photos without a third person in the room with whom the subject could interact. I would talk and engage with each person whilst they fixed their eyes on an imaginary character sat down in the same meeting room.

I think the results came out great, have a look for yourself.

Bright & Colourful Headshots With Gels

Creative and colourful headshots using coloured gels for a London-based business.

Way back in March of 2020, which feels longer than a year ago despite only being 7 or 8 months ago, I was contacted by a business looking for some headshots with a difference. This business, PMM, a real estate asset manager was going through a rebranding process, and to fit in with their new branding, they wanted their staff photographed in a colourful style.

I was excited by the prospect and jumped at the chance to do something a little different to the norm. PMM has now finished its rebrand and is now know as QSix.

The rebranding project was done by an agency, so they provided me with a creative brief and I took their guidance on the exact look they wanted for the images. I was really pleased with how they came out. You can see some of the images below and also see them in context on the QSix website.

This project took more than 6 months to complete because we had scheduled the shoot in two parts so all the team could make it, but before the second shoot date took place, the Covid-19 lockdown began. So we had to wait until September, at which point the government’s advice was for people to go back into work at offices, for the second date to take place. It was a relief to get the project finished, particularly as there was a deadline for the new website going live!

Corporate Headshots For Insurance

In the world of insurance, trust is key. So headshots need to reflect that.

Insurance is huge business, and there is inherently a great deal of trust given to businesses as a whole and people at an individual level.

An insurance business wants its clients to trust its people and want to do business with them, so their external facing image is really important. The corporate headshots of their people play a big part in that image. That’s where I come in, taking headshots that help every individual look and feel great in their headshot. It’s not just about the end result, but how you get there; the experience. I give each and every person advice on how to look their absolute best in their photo, and I work with them until we get a photo they are really happy with. It’s this experience which my clients love and I often get feedback from the organising client that everyone felt that their short headshot session was great and I really helped them look their best.

This insurance company in the heart of the City of London invited me along to take headshots of many of their staff across multiple days and they were very individually and collectively delighted with the resulting images.

Here are some of my favourites from that day.

Corporate Headshots and Groups

Headshot & group photos for London businesses.

I love photographing headshots for businesses large and small across London. Organisations of any size all benefit from high quality portrait photography. It sounds corny, but in this day and age (it’s 2020 already, oh my), your personal and your business image are more important than ever. Don’t underestimate the difference having a great photo can make to your online image and whether or not people will want to do business with you. Sure, you can just book any old photographer to take your professional headshot. But like anything in life, you get what you pay for, so I recommend doing your research before booking a photographer. Not every headshot is the same, and the experience can vary wildly from photographer to photographer.

I’ve been doing corporate portrait photography now for 7 years and I continue to train and improve my craft, never resting on my laurels. I always try and make each set of photos better than the last set.

I took the photos below for an organisation called Africa Green Co, based in London but whose mission is to increase private sector investment in energy generation in sub-Saharan Africa.
