Anyone For Tennis At 800 Feet?
The View From The Shard has transformed into a Wimbledon tennis themed space for the duration of the Wimbledon tennis championships 2017.
You can't really be in London right now and not know that Wimbledon, the world's most renowned tennis tournament, is in full swing.
If you're looking for somewhere a bit different to watch the tennis, and like somewhere with a view, I don't think you'll find a better spot than at The View From The Shard. You can watch the live tennis on a big screen, surrounded by 360 degree views of the capital. There's a Wimbledon inspired menu, with Lanson champagne, strawberries and cream, cucumber sandwiches and ice cream amongst other treats.
I was there a week ago for the opening match of the tournament, during which the old British number one, Greg Rusedski, chatted to visitors and handed out special cupcakes. He even had the chance to volley a ball back and forth with one of the event team. I'm a big tennis fan myself, so I was delighted to be there and meet a tennis legend like Greg. Let's hope Andy Murray can defend his Wimbledon crown this year now he's into the quarter finals.
Check out some of favourite photos from the event, and if you have a chance, I really recommend getting up to the 72nd floor of the Shard before the end of the weekend.
Jerry, Jerry, Jerry!
Jerry Springer was the guest of honour at the annual WJR Business Dinner this year.
Remember the time in the 90s when American talk shows were all the rage? You know the ones, where people would go on to settle their family and relationship disputes? We even have British versions still running today, like Jeremy Kyle for example. The most famous of all the American ones, excluding Oprah of course which is of a different ilk, was Jerry Springer. The talk show guests would often be known to break into fighting, only for the security heavies to pull them apart. That was when the crowd would start hollering, whooping and chanting "Jerry! Jerry! Jerry!".
People loved the drama of the show so much it was even turned into a stage musical that ran in the West End in London for two years in from 2003 to 2005. What I didn't realise until last month is that the Jerry Springer Show is still going strong! Who knew?!
So why am I talking about Jerry Springer anyway? He was the guest of honour this year at the Annual Business Dinner organised by World Jewish Relief. He was interviewed by newsreader Emily Maitlis, and he wasn't afraid to tell the audience his views on the current president of the USA. At the age of 73, Jerry is still full of life, working the room and chatting with many of the guests who had come along to see him.
Here are some of my favourite images from the event.
Stonewall's Annual Equality Dinner 2017
Stonewall's annual dinner is always colourful, loud and a lot of fun!
I was thrilled to be asked for the third consecutive year to photograph the annual Equality Dinner for Stonewall, the UK's leading charity for the LGBT community.
The dress code, 'dress to impress', allows guests of the dinner to dress how they like, and experience now tells me there are always some great outfits on display!
Stonewall is a fantastic charity and I always enjoy working with their team. I'm already looking forward to the next event coming up soon.
Here are some of my favourite shots from the evening.
Old Street Business Conference
A business conference by the British Retail Consortium at a great new hotel in Shoreditch.
One of my favourite clients, the British Retail Consortium, invited me along a couple of weeks ago to photograph their annual Customer Experience conference. The venue for the occasion was the Courthouse Hotel, a sophisticated new hotel in a grade II listed Baroque styled building.
The hotel made a great venue for a business event like this, with great facilities and lovely food. The conference itself was made up of various keynote talks and some more interactive breakout sessions, as well as plenty of time for people to network and get to know each other. To finish the day off there were drinks in the bowling alley. Yes, that's right, there's a room in the basement with two lanes of ten pin bowling. What a great way to finish off a business event!
Having worked in the strategy team of a couple of marketing agencies in a past life, I couldn't help being interested in what most of the speakers had to say. Fortunately I can handle listening and taking photos at the same time. Speaking of photos, here are some of my favourites from the 2017 BRC CX Conference.
