Capturing compelling imagery of Laura’s visit to the Ministry of Justice on behalf of her late mother, Ruth Ellis, the last woman to be executed in Britain.

The Brief
As part of the campaign to have her late mother granted a conditional pardon, Ruth visited the Ministry of Justice with a lawyer from magic circle law firm, Mishcon de Reya, to take some evidence from her mother’s original trial in 1955. The brief was to capture an eye-catching image to accompany the news story. The challenge was the location being the front door of the Ministry of Justice, which is a grey, brutalist building with a fairly small pavement in front. She also brought a framed photo of her mother, Ruth Ellis, to be included in some of the images.
The Process
I arrived a little while before Laura herself to scope out the location and decide on the best angle for the images. Using some off-camera lighting, I was able to highlight Laura and the accompanying lawyer in front of the building whilst keeping the Ministry of Justice sign visible to their side.
Final Results
The client, communications agency FTI, was very happy with the results of the shoot, and Laura herself was also delighted with the images, one of which she has display on her website.
